Dressage is a type of horse training. The type of training that these horses go through when they enter dressage is hard and intense. Each horse is trained to compete in some of the most popular competitions such as the Olympics. Of course the horses will start off in amateur level and work their way up to this if they are capable of it. Horses are put through this process in order to bring out their natural abilities through standardized training methods. When a horse has reached its training peak it will be able to respond to a riders (trained) request on where he wants to go with very little help and instruction. The horse will perform every movement with grace and every move will flow smoothly with the next. Because of this dressage is sometimes called ‘Horse Ballet’. Dressage is a way to train horses – but it is also a competition. Horses will be tested on their movements during a dressage competition and the judges will study their work and rate them on a scale of 0-10. The horses need only to get a score of 6 to move on to the next level. Those who receive a 9 are considered to be very well advanced.
