Polo is one of the few team sports that are played on horseback. The object of the game is to get more points (goals) than the opposite team. Each rider scores by pushing a plastic playing ball into the opposite teams goal through the use of a long mallet. There are many different types of Polo – but in the traditional game there are only four players and everyone must be riding on their horse. If they were to make a goal while off their horse than the point would not be counted. There are six (sometimes 8) rounds or chukkers – each lasting a total of seven minutes. There are four different variants of Polo each different than the other. Some are played indoors while others are outdoors and different equipment can be used for each game. The different variants of Polo are Snow Polo, Elephant Polo, Bike Polo, and Segway Polo. © 2007 HorseDirectory.org |
